Position Details: 

Position Summary: Serve as the key writer and editor for Hazel Park Schools publications, press releases, Hazel Park Schools website and intranet, e-newsletter and social media. Provide marketing project, branding and event management support.

                                                                                                                               
 

Essential Characteristics:

  • Proven ability to write and source content for print, broadcast and social media.
  • Demonstrated experience in fostering cooperative, professional relationships with media, including the ability to monitor trends in the education landscape, and translate into opportunities for engagement.
  • Capacity to work independently, and effectively manage multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities in fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in planning, measuring and evaluating communication effectiveness utilizing analytic tools.
  • Creative thinker with a positive, passionate and adaptable personality.

 

 

Essential Functions and Tasks:

 

  • Responsible for understanding, conceptualizing, managing and executing communication projects.
  • Independently draft, proof and edit compelling content for Hazel Park’s print and electronic communication materials.
  • Ensure all internal and external communications convey a unified and consistent organization image including adherence to established design and writing standards.
  • Develop position papers/articles on topics of importance to Hazel Park public schools.
  • As primary media contact, research, write and track the impact of press releases and media advisories.
  • Manage all media and community relations events and activities.
  • Plan and execute newsworthy, measurable programs to highlight Hazel Park.
  • Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent Hazel Park on local, regional, state and national communication associations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing or journalism.
  • Five or more years of related experience.
  • A keen attention to detail with exceptional verbal and written communication.
  • Prior copy editor experience preferred.
  • Significant Microsoft Office experience required.
  • Travel may be necessary in this position.
  • Flexible personality with a heightened awareness for positive customer relations.
