Position Details: 

Transportation Consultant

To serve as technical consultant supporting district transportation services and the use of Wayne RESA related software, trainer, and assist local school districts / local student transportation providers, in the development, mainte­nance and operation of safe and efficient transporta­tion systems.


  • Coordinate and administer the Michigan School Bus Driver Safety Education Program for Wayne County Schools and other Wayne County student transportation providers
  • Primary trainer and trainer coordinator for the MDE approved Drivers and Transportation Supervisor Certification course work in Wayne County.
  • Maintain drivers’ certification documentation as dictated by the Michigan Department of Education.
  • Maintain training documentation for individual driver and transportation supervisor certification
  • Coordinate and assist with timely submission of cost reports.
  • Provide technical support to constituent districtsand other Wayne County student transportation providers regarding relevant law, traffic flow, restraint systems, bus stops, scheduling and routing, fleet management, fleet qualification, special education transportation, and preschool transportation
  • Serve as the liaison between the Michigan State Police, the Michigan Department of Education and organizations providing pupil transporta­tion services in Wayne County.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the software applications and processes developed and supported by the IT department.
  • Collaborate with IT staff in determining the direction and content of software development and enhancements.
  • Act as a liaison between district transportation staff and IT staff to help develop and promote effective usage and application of transportation applications.
  • Act as an “ambassador” in regional and statewide groups to support and “market” RESA transportation software.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to IT application development teams with regard to federal, state or other compliance and reporting requirements related to pupil transportation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Bachelors Degree in Business Admini­stration or other relevant field preferred


  • Minimum of seven years experience in transport­a­tion management
  • Must meet the requirements or be able to meet the requirements to qualify as a transportation trainer using the mandates from the Michigan Department of Education


  • Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal laws governing pupil transportation in Michigan
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating and conducting training
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pupil transportation funding in Michigan
  • Working knowledge of computerized scheduling and routing systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge in fleet management and fleet qualification
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills required
  • Demonstrated skill working with diverse populations required


Current WCSSF 12-Month Salary Schedule – Schedule F ($61,101 - $92,474 FY) and a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including health/dental/vision/life and long-term disability insurance.
